Amanda Garcia was appointed in July 2019 as the Chief U.S. Pretrial Services Officer in the Northern District of Illinois where she serves 43 staff members. Currently, she also serves as the chair of the national Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) working group, and she is a certified DEI practitioner. Beginning in January 2024 she began her appointment as a board member of the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies (NAPSA). Chief Garcia has also led several initiatives nationally to include presenting on the latest research about considering the use of the Pretrial Services Risk Assessment (PTRA) tool to assist judicial officers and pretrial services officers as part of their decision making. These presentations took place in 2023 in the Northern District of Illinois, the Region One conference in Maine, and at the NAPSA conference.
Prior to returning to the field, Amanda was the Chief of the Program Oversight Branch at the Administrative Office (AO) where she oversaw team leaders who conducted office reviews, case investigations, congressional inquiries, and DOJ investigations. During her tenure at the AO, she was also the PPSO lead of the Sentinel Events Working Group. Amanda also served for two years as a Probation Administrator at the AO, and 14 years as a U.S. probation and pretrial services officer in both the Western and Northern Districts of Texas. She received her Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Texas of the Permian Basis.
