Jonathan Seymour is an Associate Professor of Law at Duke Law School, and a bankruptcy scholar whose research spans topics in business and consumer bankruptcy law. Much of Prof. Seymour’s recent work focuses on the study of bankruptcy exceptionalism, analyzing with a critical eye the distinct legal culture of bankruptcy courts and its effect on the process and practice of bankruptcy on the ground. He joined the tenure-track faculty at Duke in 2022 after serving for three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor, also at Duke. Prior to entering academia, he was a senior associate specializing in bankruptcy litigation and appeals at WilmerHale in Washington, DC. He holds degrees in law from Oxford University and The George Washington University School of Law.
